On 12 December, the ‘Kobe-VUB Seminar: towards Green Energy and Hydrogen’ was held at Kobe University’s Graduate School of Maritime Sciences (Fukae Campus). This seminar was organized by Kobe University’s Hydrogen Technologies Study Group as a part of its collaboration with Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB), where Kobe University Brussels European Centre (KUBEC) is located.
Since the October 2021 Kobe University Brussels workshop, Kobe University’s Hydrogen Technologies Study Group has been exchanging research with the VUB’s MOBI Electromobility Research Centre. Professor TAKEDA Minoru (principle investigator of the Hydrogen Group and professor of the Graduate School of Maritime Sciences) therefore began the Kobe-VUB seminar with an overview of this first year of exchange, which included organizing a joint session for KUBEC’s 12th annual Brussels symposium on October 18, 2022. This was followed by four MOBI researchers giving presentations to introduce their center’s green energy initiatives, including hydrogen technologies and active research via HORIZON Europe (the European Union’s key funding programme for research and innovation). The event attracted over 20 researchers and students of Kobe University, prompting lively discussions about research. The event successfully concluded with closing remarks from Professor MISHIMA Tomokazu (Graduate School of Maritime Sciences, Kobe University).
After the event, MOBI’s research team participated in a laboratory tour to learn about Kobe University’s cutting-edge research on power electronics and hydrogen technologies. They also gained an insight into Kobe University’s distinctive maritime sciences facilities and research materials through a tour of the university’s training ship ‘Kaijin Maru’ and the Maritime Museum. Kobe University is the one of the only national universities in Japan that offers extensive education and research relating to the ocean from the perspective of human activities.
Kobe University’s Hydrogen Technologies Study Group will further expand its collaboration with the VUB’s MOBI through joint research efforts including PhD student supervision.
