About Us
History
The roots of the Faculty of Maritime Science can be traced back to the private Kawasaki Merchant Marine School, which was founded in September 1917 by Yoshitaro Kawasaki on the wishes of Shozo Kawasaki, the founder of the Kawasaki Shipyard. In 1920, it was upgraded to the public Kobe Nautical College and then in 1952, it was nationalized and became the Kobe University of Mercantile Marine. It was integrated with Kobe University in 2003 and became the Faculty of Maritime Sciences of Kobe University.
The Faculty has a tradition passed down over its history of close to 100 years. This is "The spirit to be active internationally".
The situation today is that we must respond to the globalization of the economic market and the fact that this market is becoming borderless, and also to the increasingly serious global environment problems. The Faculty dedicates itself to solving these problems and to realizing a sustainable society, and it was reborn from academic year 2013.
