This laboratory aims to investigate “Numerical Weather Prediction (NWP)”, which forecasts near future weather by using computer simulations. Around Japan, local torrential rains occur mainly in summer, and they sometimes cause catastrophic disasters, whereas the forecast accuracy is still insufficient even in the modern NWP system. Our goal is to contribute to the safe navigation of the vessels and the mitigation of weather disasters by improving the forecast accuracy of the torrential rains using data assimilation techniques.
- Message for Students
- Although the weather forecasting is a familiar part of our lives, there are a lot of issues that need to be fixed. I am looking for students who are willing to do something for the future weather forecast.
